M/V “Misty Fjord”

Boat Sketch

The 60′ M/V “Misty Fjord” will be new for 2008. It is an expedition class vessel, thoughtfully and creatively designed for ecotours. With a hull design based upon well-proven commercial fishing vessels, her sturdy construction and graceful lines capture the essence and spirit of Alaska’s rich maritime heritage.

Our vessel is twin diesel powered, USCG inspected and licensed for 12 passengers overnight and 30 as a day boat. The “Misty Fjord” usually cruises at 11 knots, however the vessel has a top speed of over 20 knots.  The fiberglass hull was built by LeClercq Marine of Seattle. It carries 1400 gallons of fuel and 600 gallons of water. The water capacity is supplemented with a 800 gal. per day water maker. Safety equipment consists of a 50 passenger inflatable life raft, satellite positioning epirb and a full complement of up-to-date bridge electronic.

Our vessel is equipped with kayaks, a 13′ unsinkable Boston Whaler shore boat, and a 14′ classic rowing boat.

Accomodations: A Touch of Class!

Though the vessel captures the ambience of an Alaskan fishing vessel, it has the appearance and comfort of a new modern excursion yacht. Dale created the profile and arrangement specifically for small group wilderness cruising in Southeast Alaska.

Our vessel has 5 staterooms, each with a private shower and toilet. The “Misty Fjord” has a variety of staterooms arrangements sleeping 2 or 3. Two staterooms have double berths; the others have single berths. A special drying room provides a place to hang coats and rain gear to insure a dry start in the morning.

User Friendly

The vessel was designed as an “Expedition Class” vessel to facilitate enjoying the out of doors, but  comfort inside was not neglected. The vessel has a spacious interior featuring both a dining area and a salon. It has a self-serve snack bar separate from the main galley. Here the coffee pot is always on and hot water is available for tea and hot chocolate.  There is also a microwave and a beverage stocked refrigerator with ice and water dispensers.

Going Green

The “Misty Fjord” is powered by two 426 H.P. John Deere engines. These engines employ cutting edge technology for low emissions and high fuel efficiency and are EPA Tier 11 compliant for use in commercial service. These engines meet both the International Maritime Organization (IMO) emmission standards and the European Recreational Craft Directive standards. For efficiency and comfort, we usually travel at “hull speed”, the vessel’s most efficient speed. However, our 20 knot cruise potential gives us a great deal of flexibility. If we wish to linger at an attraction, we can easily get back on schedule. Also, this high speed capability gives us an added margin of safety, allowing us to more easily evade bad weather. Having two engines also provides additional safety.
